Panti Bird Sanctuary

Panti Bird Sanctuary is merely one and half hours drive from my place and one of my favourite place to hunt for Malaysia butterflies. A permit to enter the forest is easily obtained at the Rangers Office, near  the Forest.

Plain Green Palmer
15 January 2023

Due to the rainy season and closure of the forest, we had to wait until today to return to the forest.  Despite the unfavourable recent weathers, Mr Foo, Catalina and I took the risk and head to Panti today.

The butterfly activities were low.  We saw a few butterflies, such as the Clipper, Large Assyrian, Royal Assyrian, and a female Rajah Brookes.  After walking up and down the trail, we almost gave up any hope of finding more interesting butterflies.

All was not lost, as we were heading back to the car, I spotted the Palmer perched beautifully on the leaf.  I yelled for Catalina who was busy photographing a dragonfly at that time to approach slowly. We were both most thrilled and was absolutely delighted to see this most pristine and beautiful Palmer.

Royal Assyrian
15 January 2023

There seemed to be lots of Assyrians in the Forest on that day.  This pristine Royal Assyrian is likely to have just eclosed.  It was very docile, allowing us to lift it up and placed on different leaves to oblige us for photos.

Straight-banded Catseye
19 June 2022

This was a trip with Catalina, Gan, Jonathan and Aaron and by far one of the best trips where we saw many Arhopalas and even the Witch, that I missed!

We finally found a friendly Catseye after several attempts to get a good shot of this species in our previous trips to Panti.

Magnificient Oakblue
 19 June 2022

Truly magnificient Oakblue, and with the help of Aaron, we all took turns to photograph it without distracting it too much!

Common Red Harlequin
 12 June 2022

There were a few of them of that day, and super fun chasing although we were aware of the creepy crawly leeches that we could see on the grounds!
