Beautiful and graceful Nymphs at Gunung Pulai Recreational Forest Reserve.

Gunung Pulai Recreational Reserve is merely an hour from Singapore.  As it was a long public weekend, we took the opportunity to travel to Gunung Pulai and explore this forest reserve.

There were only four of us who could make it to this trip, namely Khew, Mei Yee, David Chan and myself.  We started our journey at about 7am and were rather surprised to find quite a large crowd when we got there.

The entrance fee to the Forest Reserve was RM3.  With this entrance ticket, we could park our car at the compound outside the kampong house in the Forest Reserve.  The house owner came to collect the ticket from us after we happily found a nice parking spot.  Without wasting more time, we took our cameras and hurriedly made our way up the hill slopes to search for our butterflies.

Much to our disappointment , there were not many butterflies that we could find.  The slopes were quite steep at certain points and it was not an easy walk when there were no butterflies excitement. It was quite a disappointed trip for all of us.

But, thankfully, as we were heading downward, the Nymphs had us entertained and truly quite amazing experience to see them flap and glide in the air as they flew above our heads.

I was happy enough to enjoy the Nymphs and in fact, Khew pointed out there were 2 species of the Nymph that we have seen that afternoon.

Common Tree Nymph (Idea stolli logani)

Malayan Tree Nymph (Idea hypermnestra linteata)
Just when we thought we could not see anything thing else, we saw a Spotted Silverstreak and a Malay Tailed Judy, that gave us some excitement to end the trip.

We left Gunung Pulai rather disappointed and headed back to Singapore at about 4pm, but we had a rather enjoyable dinner at Yeo's Seafood Restaurant, near Gelang Patah.  We didnt get home until after 10pm as were stuck at the Tuas immigration checkpoint for 4 hours.  I guess we wont be visiting Gunung Pulai in a while for butterflies hunting.
